Gas Powered RC Trucks
One of the most exciting videos I've seen is from HPI Racing for their 1/5 scale Baja 5T gas powered rc trucks. Powered by regular gasoline mixed with 2T motor oil, a full tank will run for over 30 minutes. [caption id="attachment_235" align="aligncenter" width="588" caption="HPI Baja 5T Gas Powered Truck. Photo from HPI Racing."][/caption] Power comes from a 26cc gasoline engine capable of pushing the truck to speeds up to 40 mph. But more than speed is the jumping capability and realism. Watching the video from HPI Racing just makes me want to get one. You can buy these at your local HPI hobby ...
Gas Powered RC Cars
Here are 1/5 scale rc cars and trucks powered by 23cc to 26cc engines using regular gasoline or petrol. This makes it cheaper than 1/10 scale nitro. A tank of gasoline would usually provide 30 minutes of continuous runtime! These big scale rc models are also easier to see. And with big bodies, racing is more accurate and realistic. 30 minute runtimes also lend to long races, more fun. There are many classes in 1/5 scale such as Formula 1, Touring Cars and the Bajas/Desert Trucks. There is even an IFMAR 1/5 th Scale I.C. (Gas) Circuit World Championship. 1/5 scale Formula 1 Popular are ...
RC Drift Cars
Lately I've been building rc drift cars. The reason I like them is that I can enjoy playing by myself in a small space without the need to drive 1 hour to my nearest on road rc track. I also like do drive with the rear end sticking out during a drift. Also love driving with a countersteer for a change. And I find these rc drift cars so beautifully detailed by their owners. Focus is on realism and car control. I like it. First for me is a 1/10 scale Tamiya TA05 using Tamiya's driftech tires (very hard), a spool rear end and a one-way in the front. ...
Mini RC Cars
One of the cheapest way to get into the hobby is to buy mini rc cars. These are typically 1/36, 1/24 and 1/16 in scale size and significantly smaller than the typical 1/10th scale models. [caption id="attachment_103" align="aligncenter" width="588" caption="Photo of mini rc cars. Losi Micro-t, Tamiya Tamtech, Kyosho Mini Inferno"][/caption] Above from left to right is 1/36 Losi Micro T, 1/24 Tamiya Tamtech and 1/16 scale Kyosho Mini Inferno. Being small, I can play with my mini rc cars in my living room or garage. For 1/36 scale I highly recommend the Losi Micro T. I bought this in Hong Kong, ready ...
Electric RC Cars
Hi and welcome to the electric rc cars page. Hope the tips and resources here will help you get started and enjoy the hobby for a long time. Let's begin. For Beginners Most of my electric powered rc cars are from a company called Tamiya. I like their models, realistic and easy to assemble. And if you do not like assembling, Tamiya has ready to run (RTR) models. HPI is another company I like, their radio control cars are very durable. Their ready to run kits are good out of the box. And if you later want to race, their sister company HotBodies ...
Racing RC Cars
Thinking of joining a race? Let me share with you how fun and exciting racing rc cars can be. I would recommend you practise first on your own. Best is to go to your local race track, be friends with nice and good racers, and ask them to teach you the right way to drive an rc car. It it important to practise the right technique rather than practise but doing wrong things and forming bad driving habits. Just for fun, running my Tamiya M04 mini r/c car with a Novak 4.5r brushless motor and Orion 3200 lipo battery. Tires are home made sorex cut to 57mm diameter. The motor was simply too much for the rear wheel drive M04. On the straight it’s very fast, scary fast. Infield, too much torque, difficult to drive smooth lines. My testing ended when... Here are some home made Sorex 36r tires cut down to fit on Tamiya mini wheels. I then ran it on my Tamiya M04 and won the 2009 Futaba Cup in the M-chassis race against M03s and M05s. The M04 is rear wheel drive, and cannot be beaten by a fwd if properly setup. It’s easy to do. Just buy regular Sorex touring car tires, cut off enough rubber to... [Read more of this review]
This will be a series of tips on how to tune the Tamiya M05 M-Chassis. Hope you find these useful and spread the word. Weight Balance First, it is important to have good weight balance. I am a huge fan of the Wangan Midnight anime series. My favorite is the Datsun Fairlady Z also known as the Devil Z in the anime. Story is about a group of street racers aiming to be the fastest on the Wangan in Tokyo Japan. Speeds of over 300kph. Watch the anime! Here is an r/c car called the ABC Hobby Genetic. Beautifully replicating the Devil Z car... [Read more of this review]
Kyosho is really pushing the limits of mini rc cars. Their 1/43 scale dNaNo series is one of the smallest rc cars you will ever see. Photo of a Losi Micro-T mini rc car. Hong Kong is heaven for rc hobbyists. There is a street in Kowloon full of rc stores, one next to another. You can spend an entire afternoon shopping. Prices in Hong Kong for rc cars are probably the cheapest in the world. While shopping, I saw on a shop window a box for the Losi Micro T. I’ve read about... [Read more of this review]
